Background

The Dreamwalkers are a mythical faction of Mortals born in the Afterworld instead of in the living world. They are referred to as Dreamwalkers by those in the world of the living.

No accounts have been taken when and how the Dreamwalkers came to be but with the creation of the Wolfen their numbers greatly increased as many now-cursed Humans walked the lands of the dream in the form of wolves, bound to the will of the gods and become soldiers for the native creatures of the realm thereafter. Through trials and efforts, the Wolfen found themselves a part in the greater efforts in the Afterworld and became redeemed in the process, forging together the Dreamwalkers as a faction of mortal creatures of Somniva who seek to defend the realm at all costs.

When the Gate of Dreams in Nytlerei became under assault by Demons of the Cosmos, many Dreamwalkers took it upon themselves to travel through the portal and defend it from the other side so that the Afterworld may no longer suffer unwanted intruders, leading to the first of the Dreamwalkers to come to walk Auria for the first time.

Since then, many Dreamwalkers have been born in the Afterworld and make pilgrimages upon the world of Auria and be granted the choice to return to their home realm or stay in vigilance outside of Somniva. The Elves who made their capital around the Gate of Dreams have since then adopted many stray Dreamwalkers into their ranks, honouring them as visitors and blessed beings, this has led to the Wolfen alongside the Dryads and Wisps becoming core members of the Wylderin empire though they are still splintered off as the Dreamwalkers by many.

In recent times, more and more Dreamwalkers have begun leaving the Afterworld in search of duty beyond the world of souls, seeking adventure and meaning in Auria. Many such Dreamwalkers are not accustomed to the cultures and laws of the Aurian mortals which has led many to be mistaken as criminals, outlaws or worse, even in the lands of the Elves.

Dreamwalkers, being of the Afterworld, carry stronger and more primal souls than those of Auria. Naturally any Dreamwalker has a powerful connection to the world allowing them to be faster at learning and more capable in magic.

Base of Operations

Most Dreamwalkers are Wolfen and they make their home in many groves within Somniva where they live in closely-tied packs and tribes with other native creatures like the Dryads and Wisps.

The Dreamwalkers consider Somniva as their home as it is where most of them are born but some also consider Nytlerei their home because it is the capital of the Night Empire and since the Dreamwalkers are officially part of this empire, the capital city is considered theirs as well.
