"Etherin, the city of magic. It is not only home to wizards but all kinds of spellcasters. Here, together as one, we study the endless possibilities that have been gifted to us."
-Lantheon Evertome, Headmaster of Etherin Academy

As the oldest still-standing settlement of Luxfordia, Etherin is known for only one thing: It's prestigious Academy that founded the widespread use of Magic in Auria.

Roughly 2000 years ago, when the Asvar Deldarach Hawktalon returned from Wyrmeron with the knowledge of magic, he led a short rebellion against the Human overlords that mistreated the Asvars in Luxfordia, having taught his followers the use of sorcery and easily sowing chaos in the capital of the Humans, demanding respect to be given to the Asvars in the kingdom else the royal crown falls. Unable to fight back the Elves during a time when the Kingdom was still reeling from the Battle of the Wilds, King Louis Marcus Lionheart agreed to meet his demands, writing off laws that prevented the Asvars in his kingdom from living better lives that did not turn them to slavery while also giving power to Deldarach, granting him a seat in the council of Dukes so he may speak on behalf of the Asvars of Luxfordia. When he was given the ability to speak peacefully, Deldarach also demanded that a sanctuary would be built outside of New Luxford where the Asvars could go to live without the worry of Humans pestering them. Worried that the Asvar may break out into another brutal rebellion, the king gave into his demands and allowed the Asvars to build a town at the north-western coast of Luxfordia, the Asvars calling that town Etherin.

In truth, Deldarach had the town built so that he may train more Elves in the ways of Magic, knowing that one day the Asvars could fully take over Luxfordia if all of them wielded Magic. He had a large academy built in Etherin where only Asvars could tread and he personally became the headmaster there, teaching multiple generations of Elves the art of magic. Overtime, a sprawling town would develop around the academy that would grow to the size of a small city, an era following that let the Asvars live in peace, away from the tyranny of Humans.

Unfortunately, Deldarach would be unable to keep Magic in the hands of the Asvars alone as word spread about their academy all across Auria, leading to representatives from the other kingdoms of Auria to march upon Etherin demanding that they gain the knowledge that Deldarach gained. Fearing for the worst, the leader of the Asvars reluctantly opened the doors to his academy to chosen members of each Kingdom who would have to pass the knowledge onto others - Naga, Fenik, Enkhulu, Elf, Human and even Avari, many different races attending a unified academy which would lead to the widespread use of the Arcane.

Nowadays, Etherin thrives as the third largest city in Luxfordia. After the fall of Yvain Greymoore and the Asvars claiming Luxfordia, Etherin Academy's walls became open to any who wish to dedicate themselves to the Arcane.

Districts

Agricultural: Etherin's Floating Gardens are, as the name suggests, a series of mystical floating islets used for cultivating unique, magically-grown crops. These islands hover Etherin's Delmanos Lake, a large body of water behind the Academy Grounds which also has the recreational Hanging Gardens hovering over it.

Commercial: Those visiting Etherin will be most accustomed to the Asvarian Exchange, the first district to welcomes visitors to the city and the one that offers the most to do for non-students and staff of the Academy. Here one can find the Lavender Relief Inn, a hot spot for staying at or relaxing if the hanging gardens do not do it for the person. The district also features many local businesses that students and graduates of the Academy have started most often making use of their magic to craft their wears.

Magical: Serving as both the place of power for the city and as the place of knowledge and study, Etherin's Academy Grounds are known for the prestigious Etherin Academy, a grand school for all magic. The Academy Grounds feature many buildings and structures used by the students and teachers at the Academy to teach different subjects as well as to keep said students and teachers happy with plenty of room to breath fresh air between buildings. It is also often here that the school holds a yearly festival in front of their school doors to entice visitors with magical shows and exciting experiences.

Etherin Academy also serves as the governing building for the city, as its headmaster Lantheon Evertome is also the Duke of Etherin, serving both a role as a teacher and a seat in the House of Dukes.

Recreational: Adjacent to the Floating Gardens are the Hanging Gardens. Unlike the former, the latter is used for leisure and recreation by the students and whomever else makes it up there using a series of portals present at the foot of Delmanos Lake. People go to the Hanging Gardens oft to relax, taking in the sights of a series of everchanging waterfalls coming from the islets above which are on the move constantly, orbiting the main island like planets around the sun.

Residential: Around the Academy Grounds is the vast Etherin Dormitories, a series of neighbourhoods used by both students, teachers and local residents to live in. They have their own amenities in the form of speciality stores and businesses once more with the purpose of keeping the citizens happy. The Residentials also feature the Library of Duke Winterholde, a historic library of knowledge for public use which is named a past Duke of Etherin.
