Two Humans praying to Gryph

For ages uncounted, the power of Faith has been the driving force of all galaxies in ordered existence. When the Eldest first created the worlds within the sea of untamed chaos, they also assigned powerful beings known as Gods to each world to act as both guardians of that galaxy as well as it's gears in the system of creation. Although they had the potential to be extremely powerful, the Eldest made them dependent on Mortal Faith, which may only be earned through worship, prayer and belief in the Gods.

Since the first steps that Mortals took, the Gods of Auria have attempted every stride to make them give their faith but because of their holiest task given to them by the Eldest as well as their limitations in powers when without faith, they could not force them into worship nor live among them at all times to keep their reminders close. Instead, the Gods resorted to make themselves known in vague means as well as performing their rightful duties without question, providing Auria with fertile lands, ordered seasons and great well-being. In their hard work, the Gods were gifted with much praise and faith allowing them to complete their duties better and provide them with greater powers, but with the development of many major factions in Auria, so did develop religions devoting towards one or a group of select Gods which provided a funnel of Faith towards them, leaving those without a Religion devoted to them more starved of Faith, though thanks to faiths that worshiped all Gods in unison, no God remained abandoned by Faith. Thanks to the fertile faith of Auria's denizens, the Gods of Auria have been able to keep the Galaxy stable and healthy for many millennia onwards.

With the advent of Religions and a contest to gain the most Faith, Aurian Gods have often competed against one another in a race to see who is able to gain the most amount of Faith.

In the Galaxy of Zetur, homeworld of the Ezama, the Gods existed much like they did in Auria, yet when the Ezama people begun to traverse the universe beyond their own Galaxy they also begun to discover truths of the Eldest, causing much of what they believed in to be focused upon the singularity of the Eldest and no more towards their own Gods, this belief quickly spreading across the entire Galaxy as every native race begun to tell of the Eldest and leaving the Gods starved of Faith. The lands would wither and die, the waters vaporizing and the very material of creation in Zetur slowly broke down as the Gods lost their powers year by year till they too shattered and died out, leaving Zetur unprotected from the Cosmos' chaotic influence. Fifty years of stagnation took place in Zetur where the people begun to pray for the return of the Gods, yet it was too late. Soon after Zetur's very ethereal barrier shattered from the rifts created by the exoduses of Naj'Albaria, causing Zetur to rejoin with the Cosmos' sea of chaos.

Technicalities

Faith is an ethereal substance that is expelled from one's own strong belief in a God or Gods, this ethereal energy coming from the core of their soul and being drawn straight to the Afterworld to whatever God it is directed towards, adding to their reservoir of Faith which acts as a fuel for that God to do it's duties. The amount of incoming Faith for a God ascends or descents their importance in the Afterworld, with Gods with more Faith being regarded higher than those with less.

The Primal Gods are by nature more worshiped than non-Primal Gods and this alongside the powers gifted to them by the Eldest means they are always more powerful than non-Primal Gods.

Faith does not always come from a place of love and devotion, but also fear and anger, so long as the person believes in the existence of a God they give them faith to empower them. The God of Shadow Shikaze is the finest example of this, being a God that often depicts itself as a killer of mankind without relent means she is often feared by the vast majority of the Mortal populous, leading to a lot of Faith being generated through this fear which has made Shikaze one of the most powerful non-Primal God in the Aurian Afterworld.

Though Faith was created to feed the Gods their powers, its ethereal essence is not reserved to only them but possibly to anyone alive. Figures like Kings and Emperors who's subjects look up to them like a God gain power from their Faith as well. It is how certain figures of great importance can rise up as Heroes worthy of legends and myths told of them for centuries to come.
