The cunning Fenik, the wildcard race of Auria. While some see them more as a joke, the proud Fenik have proven time and time again that their ingenuity and will to survive shows no limits. As one of the core races of the world, originating from the very beginning of existence itself, the Fenik make a life out of trade and craftsmanship, their love for tinkering and knowledge showing no bounds. Their capital, Steamgear, is a large, technologically advanced city where the fox people flourish in sharing their intelligence with whomever passes through.
The Fenik originated much like any other race on Auria, created by the gods and placed upon a planet as experiments to be observed. At first, the fox-people acted aggressive and wild, like beasts, but quickly overtime they would develop into small tribes and clans that worked together in Gwynbrenon, their gifted minds allowing them to discover how the world worked quickly. At one point, the Fenik were endangered by the native Trolls who had the strength to wipe them out after the Fenik stole a precious elemental relic from them, forcing the primitive race to craft the world's first Skyship and fly off the planet onto Saberos, where they met another, even stronger force - the Vishaali. Though 60% of their entire population died in the crash landing onto the new planet and how they struggle to fight the large, hulking elephant people, the Fenik used their cunning and ingenuity to trick the Vishaali into dangerous traps that decimated their forces and made them pull back, giving the fox people enough time to settle in on the island and begin their own civilization.
As they were now away from any real dangers besides the fear of the Vishaali coming back to strike at them, the Fenik begun to continue their research and studies, realizing that they are gifted in creating masterful pieces of technology that could give them the upper hand in whatever troubles come their way. Over a few centuries, the Fenik settlement grew into a city of craftsmen known as Steamgear, where knowledge and a desire to create are the fundamentals of living a good life.
During the battle which led to the downfall of Yvain's Grand War, the Fenik joined the Elves after they were liberated from the Humans’ grasp, the little folk proving themselves on the battlefield as they made decisive moves against the Human empire thanks to the Fenik’s higher-grade technology and weaponry.
After the war, the Fenik returned to Steamgear, a wondrous steampunk port city in the Saber Islands to continue their work, though some Fenik saw a future outside the steamy streets of their home city. As such, many of them stayed behind in New Luxford to teach their tinkering to other races of the world as well as serving as valuable members in the military that upholds peace to this day.
Religion and Culture
Fenik are known for being largely atheistic with very few actually dedicating themselves towards the prayer of a God, instead relying on their own intelligence and willpower to guide them through hardships.
Fenik culture focuses on the creation of machines and gadgets ever since they first created their first Skyship, the Nova Voltex. Much of a Fenik's day to day life is dedicated to studying engineering in hopes of being the next great inventor of their people. The Academy of Machine is Auria's largest school which teaches engineering, opened just after the Great Conquest ended to help spread their knowledge to other races. Those that do not excel in the art of tinkering instead pursue a path in business and trade with many Fenik having a sharp cunning towards being excellent tradesmen and swindlers. Many Fenik choose to focus on both sides, being both great craftsmen as well as scheming businessmen.
That being said, Magic is also considered important in Fenik culture and some pursue a life of magical studies as they hold a belief that magic users are highly intelligent which is often the case. Some Fenik attempt to combine Magic and Engineering into one.
Though their people have had to participate in many battles and war, both directly and indirectly through selling weapons to other kingdoms, the majority of the Fenik have a strong belief towards the fact that war isn't good for a healthy economy and actively advocate diplomatic solutions over costly battles. Should war become a threat to the people, the Fenik have formed an elite army known as the Warbreakers that dedicate themselves to defending Fenik lands and ending wars as fast and deathless as possible.
Fenik are known for being friendly and open-minded, often times being witty and creative in the ways they solve problems or even speak. They show no discrimination towards other species though have a natural fear towards Dragons and quickly grow suspicious of Draken. They love to share their ideas with others and have a strong belief in never holding out knowledge from other people if it can benefit everyone. Many Fenik prefer to be pacifists or neutral during conflicts.
Society and its Structure
The empire of the Fenik is known as the Nova Voltex, named after the ship which brought their race from Gwynbrenon onto Saberos.
Fenik live in well-organized cities where they are able to experience comparably normal lives. Many work jobs put out by the government that rules over their people which helps to keep their people thriving and the kingdom strong.
Fenik leadership is chosen every 50 years through a rigorous election process where the people may vote for a pureblood Fenik of considerable accomplishments, whomever gains the most amount of votes is deemed the new Minister. Despite the name and the high rank of the title, the Minister has no legal authority over he's or she's people and acts more like a figurehead or spokesman for their people. The Minister must also choose two of their competitors during the election to be his or her assistants during their term.
The High Government is naturally the true authoritarian rule over the people which dictates the laws and regulations that go through in their cities as well as handles many of the decisions taken within their cities with the Minister being an advisor and councilman within the Government during his term.
Next to the High Government, Fenik society is built upon the many companies founded by the citizens of their settlements - companies that provide services or make and distribute goods to others. As natural businessmen, Fenik honour fair companies and their work by seeing those that found them with high regard to the point that some of the most influential ones are given positions in the High Government.
