The Grand War (Also going by the title of "The Great Injustice" by the Wylderin and their allies and "The Fall of Humanity" by Ironwatch) is a war that begun at the start of the Modern Era, in the year 3000, and ended three years later in 3003 with the dethroning of the Greymoore family.
2989-3000 - The Prewar Lead-Up
Following the sudden death of beloved Valon II in 2989 his only son Yvain would be crowned the new High King of Luxfordia. Grief stricken by the death of his father and burdened by the weight of the royal crown upon his scalp, Yvain Greymoore would grow spiteful of the rest of the world and the disorder that takes place between differing nations. Under the mentorship of Duke Justigarde Yvain would begin to make preparations for a "war to end all wars" that would forcefully unite the world under the banner of grand Luxfordia. In order to succeed in a war of such proportions many preparations had to be made and Yvain was prepared to put his nation through hazardous trials and difficult times to make sure such preparations were met with satisfying results.
The High King's first act of readiness was to maximize the productivity of the eight cornerstones of Luxfordia: New Luxford, Ironwatch and Nordstrom were locked down to focus on the production of their military by founding new workshops across these three cities with New Luxford focused primarily on the production of armour and weapons; Ironwatch on the training of their troops and Nordstrom on siege machinary and vessels. Studies in Etherin were shut down in favour of amassing an army of specialty Spellbreakers. Neverwind and Hillshire were made to focus their food productivity into feeding the growing army of the High King and the workers of the many workshops leading to fewer food to be spared to civilians. Lastly King's Crossing and Hawkport would make use of their trade posts to boost the income of the kingdom which Yvain would use for imports from empires like Urol, Mor Kardia and Nova Voltex to reinforce his army even more and, while it was unintentional, the amount of internation trading done by the Human nation would also boost their reputation with the other kingdoms leading to a degree of trust to be built between them. Luxfordia and Mor Kardia would renew their defense pact with one another.
The Duke of Ironwatch would primarily be responsible for the management of Luxfordian's "Grand Army" which he would do a great job in amassing. He would prepare separate units for different climates including the Frozen Front Contingent and the Elite Sunbreaker Unit specifically trained to fight in the harsh regions found throughout the Galaxy. Legatus Ivan Northfury and Legatus Serra Blake would be made the leaders of these two elite armies while Legatus Otto Cerces was honoured with leading the Grand Army's First Offensive and Legatus Sharn Strofer with the Grand Army's Second Offensive, both armies supplemented with plenty of siege machinery and anti-magic soldiers led by Legatus Grante the Impervious of the Blacksteel Division, Luxfordia's head of siegecraft.
High King Greymoore would also employ the notorious and unlawful Fated Blades, a thieves guild he had made use of in the past to assassinate the love of his love, to spy upon the kingdoms he sought to conquer in the coming and to sow chaos among their ranks months prior to the planned launch of the war to scatter their defenses and disrupt communications. The Fated Blade Guild would largely be successful in their espionage missions in most their fronts however the Sensh Inju of the Shin Naga would be successful in discovering their activities in Serena and eliminating them. The death of his spies in Serena would cause Yvain to launch the war earlier than previous anticipated to prevent the Naga from warning the rest of the world of his plans.
3000 - Battle of Livanin
The Grand War would be declared on the 6th of Aestos, 3000, when the Elite Sunbreaker Unit led by Legatus Serra Blake would march through the Livanin Canyons and into the desert, beginning their onslaught on the smaller Chronos settlements while a naval fleet started encircling the eastern coast and landing raiding parties onto Livanin's Shores. The battle against the Senkh was fierce but Pharaoh Sutanssen Horus would observe that his forces are outnumbered and incapable of fighting back. He would make drastic decision by calling for an evacuation into the capital city for all his people while he and his priests prayed for the return of Aechronos, the God of Time who had stopped gracing them with his divine guidance many centuries ago. Continuing to believe in the God's return, Sutanssen Horus's undying faith was enough to awaken Aechronos and summon him in order to intervene the attack of the Luxfordians, casting upon the capital city a time barrier that would lock everyone inside in stasis and prevent anyone outside of it from entering.
While a few units of the Sunbreakers were caught in the time bubble, most were left out of it and were unable to continue their push. The rest of Livanin was quickly secured by Luxfordia and from the Sunbreakers a smaller faction was formed named the Sunstalkers who would be tasked with keeping a watch on the Senkh while they remain in stasis, acting as warders for them.
The Battle of Livanin would be considered over by the 13th of Thuvos, 3 months after the war started.
3000 - Battle for Wyrmeron
Starting side-by-side with the battle of Livanin, Legatus Northfury's Frozen Front would engage in aerial combat in Wyrmeron's skies. They would be met with a great degree of resistance from the Avari and their sky fleet, causing a great degree of loss for Luxfordia's war machines yet they were able to power through the initial attack and land on Wyrmeron's Winterfury and establish a stronghold in its mountainous shadow. From there most contingents marched forward into Frostfire in order to lay siege on Whitewind Rise while the 7th and 11th Contingents were tasked with expanding into Everfrost and lay siege on the Fjordsid capital: Eldgammelildsted. The mission would be a failure as the Contingents lost one of their commanders and were forced to retreat.
The fighting in Frostfire resulted in much of the western wildlife from being displaced as the forest was crushed under the vehicles of the Frozen Front. The siege on Whitewind would begin on the 5th of Julos with a first strike on the lower reaches of the city but the defenders would be quick to react. As a manifestation of the eternal bond between the United Tribes and the Bjorn Empire, the Icesworn would aid in the defence of the city and secure the southern coast with their incredible naval army. The military skyships of the Avari served as formidable defensive machines against the aerial bombardment of the Luxfordians and the combined ground armies of the Avari and Urson meant that Legatus Ivan Northfury was met with a stalemate. Ranger Captain Vora and Icesworn Admiral Zhena Warmhearth would lead the defences of Whitewind
A sudden twist of fate would occur when a third party joined the war a few days later: Dragons that would launch a devastating attack against the birdfolk, destroying their aerial and naval fleets and decimating their numbers with raging dragonfire. Though it cannot be confirmed, murmurings of a cosmic foe would also crop up at that time, one of demonic origins who had elongated scimitars for arms and revelled in the slaughter of the Avari.
At that time the Frozen Front’s Civilian hunters were established by Ivan Northfury with the direct task of hunting down and killing unarmed civilians retreating the warfronts. They would later be found dead in the woods of eastern Frostfire.
The United Tribes would call for an immediate evacuation eastward, with the plan of recuperating with the Urson and standing their final ground in Shiveer. By the months end, the Luxfordian forces would capture Whiterise and turn it into their forward camp. Not long after a new advance would commence on the eastern boreal land which would start with the Battle of Furon Garrison. The Avari had the Urson blow up the treasured bridge connecting their lands together in order to prevent an easy advancement for the Luxfordians, leading to a battle that would last until the 22nd of Novus, 3000, when the Luxfordians would finally push through and enter into the greater battle known simply as the "Conflict at the Bloodied Snows" in central Shiveer.
This battle would last until the 16th of Pesos, 3001 when the united forces of the United Tribes and the Bjorn Empire bested the Luxfordian offense. Fylkir Cyrun Ragnagard would take some of his forces to Gwynbrenon in order to consult Archdruid Leronas of the Wylderin Triskelion and Zanchul Apox Kaw'iil of the Trollish Xib'alba.
3000 - 3001 - Battle for Grukoor
After their self-declared victory in Livanin, the Sunbreaker Unit would temporarily combine with Legatus Otto Cerces' First Offensive. Their initial strategy was to lay siege on Urol lands directly but multiple failures on that front forced Lord Cerces and Lady Blake to instead attack the undefended neutral territory of the Desolate Drifts. This was made even easier when Caden Vaugh, mayor of Redbrook, signed an agreement to sell his town off to the Luxfordians in return for his safety and liberty to remain Mayor for the enslaved town.
From the Desolate Drifts, the First Offensive would attack the Enkhulun ancient homeland, starting the Battle at Swarthek which involved the impressive defence of the Black Wall holding back the onslaught of the Human nation. The battle would lead to the loss of multiple Urol Warchiefs and Luxfordian Commanders, thinning the armies of both greatly. The dry climate of the land would also add additional losses to the Luxfordian side as only the Sunbreaker Unit was trained to fight the heat.
Starting the new year, on the 4th of Fonus the Luxfordians would finally break through Swarthek and push into the Okramm Canyons. This offensive would be done mainly by the Sunbreakers of Serra Blake as they were equipped to deal with the encroaching heat of the desert. Much like in Wyrmeron, the Dragons would come to the side of the Humans and lay siege to the backlines of the Enkhulu. The Urol would fight in the defence of their homeland but would be continuously pushed back towards their fortified capital.
The Battle of Uroldros would take place multiple times as the city would switch ownership multiple times during the next couple of months. The Enkhulu would fight off the Luxfordians only to be defeated by their reinforcements coming from the drifts as well as the Dragons ceaselessly laying siege from above. The city would sustain a great amount of damage and eventually the Urolkhul Zurshak called for a shameful retreat off-planet, taking his remaining forces to Gwynbrenon in order to forge an alliance with the Wylderin and Xib'alba.
After their victories in Grukoor, the Sunbreakers were left in charge of securing the rest of the planet to a lesser success while the remainders of the First Offense would join with the Second Offense led by Legatus Sharn Strofer. While it was a win for Luxfordia, the damages sustained in the war were already far too noticeable to ignore, especially in the great loss of the Luxfordian War Machines.
3001 - Battle for Saberos and Serena
The Luxfordian Grand Army would reach the mystical lands of Serena on the 3rd of Vebrus, erecting Snakebane Fort in the heart of Hanayama. The Daiya Dynasty would expect the Humans to attack and would greet them with a fierce resistance immediately, launching countless night-time attacks on the invaders with the help of the Jadami. The spiritual Blademasters of the Naga would become notorious challengers for the Luxfordian Footmen and the mystics of the Boa Clan would make themselves known for their tall spirit walls they would conjure in order to prevent Human expansion. The immediate Luxfordian attack would turn into a lethal failure as they became boxed in and unable to retreat into the sky.
However, High King Greymoore expected such a fight from the Naga and would personally act as Legatus for a separate royal unit consisting of his royal guard. Known as "Iron Will of the King", his army would be led to a different planet, Saberos, to conquer the machine-focused Steamgear City and take from them their machines and tinkers and add them to Grante's army. The war on Saberos would be a difficult one as the Coralfang Swashbucklers would ally themselves with the Nova Voltex and attack the invaders from both sides, encircling Yvain's army and coming close to threatening his life even.
But Yvain was cunning and sought and commanded the Fated Blades who entrenched themselves in both Portegral and Steamgear City to recruit partisans of the opposition and start riots in the major capitals, disrupting the flow of reinforcements for both factions' armies and granting Yvain's Iron Will to sweep across the islands and capture Chronoworth completely by the 9th of Zarus. Yvain would also learn from the past battles and not let him enemies retreat this time, shooting down any escaping Skyships whether they were civilian or military. Labourers working in Steamgear and the surrounding towns would be forced to create a new line of powerful siege machines based on Grante's schematics - the "Finale Triumph" line of military Skyships powerful enough to deploy city-razing bombs down upon any who dare to resist the will of the High King.
The War would enter a major stalemate at this time as the majority of the Luxfordian army was preparing their devastating fleet and the second offensive held their ground on Serena, refusing to be defeated. The Iron Will of the King and Grante's Blacksteel Division would launch a massive attack on the 2nd of Falgos which would free their encircled forces in Serena and allow for a decisive and smooth advancement towards the Naga capital. The Battle for Jad'ir City served as a gruesome moment for the Naga as their endless faith towards the Dragons was suddenly betrayed when the Dragons whom had aided the Luxfordians so far once more showed up and started to burn their capital to ash, destroying large portions of the city and killing a large portion of the Naga population. The battle would end with the deaths of Supedo Empress Kirinoko Kuro and Daiya Empress Uneiko Shorai, also ending the Daiya Dynasty.
3001-3002 - Battle for Gwynbrenon
Using the momentum he gained from conquering Serena as well as overly prideful for the success he had had so far, High King Greymoore would not pause after Jad'ir City and immediately launched an attack on Gwynbrenon. The Wylderin and Xib'alba would be ready for them and with the added reinforcements from Bjorn and Urol they would stand not just equal in battle but surpassing Yvain's army. The Human king was arrogant however and still believed the Dragons were on his side, a falsehood that was quickly revealed when the Dragons seemingly pulled their support away from Luxfordia and disappeared into the four winds.
Luxfordia's Second Offensive and the Iron Will of the King would still serve as dangerous opponents in battle, landing on a number of regions across Gwynbrenon and fighting a war on two fronts against two great empires. Many smaller villages would be destroyed in the wake of Yvain's army but on the eve of the 1st of Marus 3002, Yvain would fall in battle against Urolkhul Zurshak in the battle for Ealain in central Tranquilon. The moment the Enkhulu's axe tore the head of the king off his body would be described as chilling by everyone who experienced it and the rallying cry of the Urolkhul demoralised the soldiers of Luxfordia, causing them to lose what edge they had left in them. As second in command, Sharn Strofer would call for an immediate retreat.
3002 - Liberation of Saberos and Serena
Decreeing an alliance, the Wylderin alongside the Bjorn, the Xib'alba, the Urol as well as refugees of the Daiya Naga forged the Liberation Front tasked with righting the wrongs of this war. They would not give an inch to the Luxfordians and started pursuing them off-world, killing Legatus Sharn Strofer of the Second Offensive. Legatus Otto Cerces would take over the remaining army of Luxfordia and entrench themselves in the occupied Steamgear City, where he would be forced to fight off the Liberation Front. This would largely be a failed attempt as his forces suffered in their moral and supplies were cut short from their homeland. The Liberation Front would be successful in liberating Saberos and driving the Luxfordians off the planet, with Otto managing to survive.
The fearful Legatus would bring his forces to Serena only to realise that a new enemy has already killed their forces there. From the northern Himalya Reaches the dreaded Oni had resurfaced and attacked a weak occupying force of Luxfordians in Jad'ir while the war in Gwynbrenon raged on. After taking the city for themselves, the Oni would turn it into a breeding ground for demonic activity and captured Otto and his men as they made a mistake of landing onto the planet. Otto would meet his demise in a bloody ritual conducted in the heart of the capital in order to summon a powerful Archdevil - Orochi.
Liberation Front with the survivors of the Daiya Dynasty led by Sakura Hiroyama would fight feverishly in a battle against the demon worshiping cult which would take place mainly in Jad'ir City for the coming months. The fight would reach a pinnacle when Orochi himself emerged from the ground beneath the city and threatened to subjugate all life on the planet. The Liberation Front was forced to pull away from the battle when Orochi emerged, deeming the city hopeless yet in a hopefully change of fates the screams of a dying Orochi would echo across the vast valleys as his temporary corporeal form was driven back into the ground from which he emerged. None exist who know what happened to him, but the Liberation Front turn around and took the city from the splinters of the Oni, finalising the capture.
3002 - Liberation of Wyrmeron
The battles in Wyrmeron would also take a twist as Ivan Northfury would disappear from the eyes of his forces, leading to them becoming clueless. The Bjorn and the United Tribes would manage to push against the Humans as they laid their arms down in surrender. At that time a meteor of cosmic magics would be hurled from the pinnacle of Whitewind Rise onto the home of the Stormcrow tribes, destroying their kin completely. The hero of the Avari who, in oral tradition, was named "The Phoenix Harbinger" would supposedly die in the crash of this meteor making it apparent that he fought in a duel with a great yet unknown opponent.
After Whitewind Rise was liberated and the Humans taken in as prisoners of war, the leadership of the Avari would discover the body of Ivan Northfury lying in a puddle of his own blood in the burnt down building above the city, his throat cleanly slit open. The culprit had yet to be made clear.
3003 - Liberation of Grukoor
In the absence of the Grand Army, the Sunbreakers in Grukoor would be unable to hold their influence over both the Desolate Drifts and the Okramm Canyons. In the drifts a militant faction would emerge known as the Tyrantfall Militia which would lead a counter-offensive of their own against the Sunbreakers and liberate the towns of the drifts from Luxfordian control, freeing the civilians there from endless labour in the quarries that had cost the lives of hundreds.
The Sunbreakers would be largely left in the dark when it came to how the war progressed, causing them to be caught by surprise when the Liberation Front started sieging them en masse. Uroldros would be quickly lost as Serra Blake was grievously wounded in the fight, losing a leg against the ruthless Zurshak before calling for surrender.
3003 - Liberation of Luxfordia
The last hurdle for the Liberation Front would be the homeland of Luxfordia. The Chronos Senkh continued to exist in time stasis for the indefinite future, leaving only New Luxford and the surrounding estates as targets.
Following the start of the war, revolutionary Regindra Fedelerin would rally under her all those who stood against the current regime which involved almost all Asvarians as well as Darksorrow and Etherin. In the absence of the High King who had gone to war, Duke Aerthur Justigarde II would assume dominion over Luxfordia in order to establish order in the kingdom and crush the revolutionaries. He would command the Dwarves to honour their blood oath with the kingdom and aid in her defence which they would do.
The death of the High King in 3002 would bring with it a wave of support towards Regindra. All of the estates par for Ironwatch would show their true colours and switch sides to aid the revolutionary and with the support of the Liberation Front crashing down upon New Luxford, total victory would seem imminent. The last battle of the Grand War would take place on the 5th of Thuvos, 3003, at the gates of New Luxford where the Dwarven Army hopeless stood in defence against the Liberation Front, refusing to back away from their blood oath. They would be slaughtered, the field paved in dwarven blood.
The Grand War would be officially declared over two days later when Aerthur Justigarde refused to die to the blade of Regindra, a half-blood in his eyes, and plunged himself off the castle balcony to his death.
3003 - The Postwar
After the war, the Elves of the Wylderin deemed Luxfordia too big of a threat to be left alive. Revolutionary Regindra Fedelerin would serve as a representative for the kingdom and attest to the fact that there is still hope for a better future for them, citing the words of past Kings and Queens who had served righteous causes. Archdruid Leronas and Zanchul Apox would commend her actions in uniting Luxfordia under a new light but spoke against the continued existence of the kingdom still, being swayed to a different opinion by Cyrun Ragnagard who saw the heart of a good person in not just Regindra but all those who fought against the injustice of Yvain's oppression. Ultimately, Leronas and Apox would decree that the Kingdom of Luxfordia may be spared so long as Regindra would be crowned as their new Queen and that her bloodline would remain on the throne for the foreseeable future.
Regindra Fedelerin would be crowned Queen of Luxfordia after securing necessary order across the kingdom. The Asvars would be elevated to be equals to the Humans in Luxfordia. Ironwatch would isolate itself from the rest of the kingdom, still defying the rule of Regindra to this day.
Feeling betrayed by the Humans, the Dwarves of Mor Kardia would shut their borders temporarily and isolate themselves from the world.
The Dragons responsible for the escalation of the war would be identified as the Zealous Verdict, who would proudly stand by what they had done. The killer of Ivan Northfury was never identified but a working theory is that it was the leader of the Zealous themselves who delivered the killing blow.
The Liberation Front was dismantled shortly after the war's end as each faction went its own way to healing from the war. A truce would be signed between the participants, promising no attacks against another until the end of 3020.
Five years after the war, Regindra would see to the foundation of Sante Citare, a city on an island in the Imperian Ocean which would serve as a symbol of unity between the races that participated in the war.
In total, the Grand War cost the lives of thousands if not tens of thousands across the Galaxy. Many towns and villages were lost to the war with their ruins littering the lands to this day.
