Lamia, or as they are often called in modern days: Primordial Naga are a race of sea-dwelling humanoid snake people. When the galaxy of Auria was formed, the goddess of water Aquandas named the oceans of each planet her domain. Knowing the vastness of her kingdom, Aquandas created a race of intelligent sea creatures to protect her limitless empire, naming them the Lamia, and granted them a way to travel between each planet through the use of special portals that could be found in the deepest reaches of the oceans. In her honour they served, building multiple underwater cities and conquering the unclaimed oceans desiring to take full control over it. That is why, when the land-dwelling mortals first begun to sail the seas, they would often times be attacked by the seemingly monstrous aquatic beings, destroying their sailboats and ships and slaying any who dared cross their territory. Overtime, the Lamia society would develop greatly, researching ways of controlling every little part of the ocean possible, even attempting to tame the legendary Wyrms.
Much of the early Lamia kingdom turned largely into a dominant patriarchy where the males saw the females as little more than slaves and simple mates which eventually led to an uprising, many Lamia women turning against their male overlords and forming their own faction loyal not to the Atlami kingdom but to themselves. These outcasted Lamia would one day become the Naga as they forsook their aquatic lives in favour of ones ashore and in land. After the female uprising in the Atlami kingdom, things did not calm down. Civil wars and public unrest became big issues that the hierarchy were unable to quell, leading to the kingdom becoming split apart and shattering into multiple smaller kingdoms, each taking control over a part of the ocean.
Nowadays, the Lamia act separated across the many oceans of Auria, each kingdom in its own allignment like Azura and Ocelis who make pacts with the mortals that allow them to sail the seas unharrassed by them and the Selis kingdom is notorious for working with the Hayka pirates to hold conquest over the seas. The Lamia of Icion in Wyrmeron remain isolated from the rest of the Lamian kingdoms going as far as to freeze the gateway in their oceans shut as to prevent outsiders from entering their planet.
Commonly, Lamia remain on thin ice with the mortals and many Lamia wish to show little mercy when they are provoked by them, having no issue with killing the other races of Auria if it means defending their own pride and honour. On the other side of the spectrum, some Lamia fight against this aggressive behaviour and oft times protest against it, attempting to paint their race into something more than just monsters who launch ruthless attacks.
In water, Lamia are gifted with rapid regeneration that helps them cure wounds quickly unless inflicted by deadly venoms or poisons.
All Lamia are gifted a Living Water Scale said to be a gift from Aquandas herself at birth which is said to hold the powers of the sea with them at all times. Though they rarely do so, the Lamia that leave the safety of the underwater world remain protected by their necklaces, allowing them to breathe outside of water unless the necklace is taken away from them. Fishermen tell the tale of beautiful Lamia women attempting to lure mortal men to them to prey upon them, biting into their flesh with their fangs which store an incapacitating toxin.
Lastly, after the shattering of the Atlami kingdom, its denizens sunk deep into the ocean depths, their city of Atlathas coming with them. Now a myth, the Atlami Lamia became cursed with whatever lurks in the deepest regions of the ocean, forever appearing as monsters with large, almost dragon-like heads and incredibly larger masses. They have since become a force to be reckoned with, relentlessly attacking other Lamia kingdoms and even striking out at land, attacking seaside settlements and claiming them as their own. The Azura Lamia call these monsters "Shamia" although they themselves continue to believe they are the true heirs of the ocean, calling their new forms an "evolution".
Physical Appearences
Lamia are large scaled beings often times reaching up to 3 meters in height though on average they stand about 2 meters. Their have multiple fins on their body, often on their heads, arms, backs and tail. Sometimes Lamia even have horns or tendrils sticking out their head. Their tails resemble that of a shark or dolphin. Lamia eyes glow underwater and are often times mistaken for sea monsters stalking fishermen. Lamia can have two or four arms, depending wholly on genes passed down from parent to child.
Lamia men are girthier and larger than the women, with notably well-built torsos and large claws. Lamia women, on the other hand, can be considered beautiful even by non-Lamia. They are womanly in looks with notable breasts and slightly wider pelvises. They have charming singing voices.
