Luxfordian Military Hierarchy

As one of the oldest and most militaristic nations of the seven worlds, Luxfordia possesses an intricate and elaborate military system. Though it had its starts in a time when the Barbarian Warlord Vandrash single-handledly led his warband to rally Humankind under his banner, a system of organised warfare was quickly developed when the first King started to see his influence grow. The first Legati of Luxfordia would be found in the leaders of the clans that Vandrash Luxondros manifested into his nation and they would become his most trusted military leaders. As the nation went through a reforming in the wake of Vandrash's fall, the hierarchy would begin to expand from the Legati downwards, introducing layers of ranks each with their own authorities and meaning.

King / Queen
As the supreme authority of Luxfordia, the King or Queen's word is law. Though they are not always present on the battlefield, they are the ones to issue the first strike in war through their Legati. Whether in Castle Aspectum or n the off-chance that they are present in battle, a King or Queen is escorted by the Royal Guard that serves to preserve their life against the enemy.

The King or Queen is also accompanied by one or multiple advisors that give guidance and opinion. Though important, being a royal advisor does not grant the person any authority in the government or army.

Royal Guard
The Royal Guard of Luxfordia are highly-skilled individuals personally handpicked by the King or Queen to protect them. While they wield no direct authority in the Luxfordian army, their presence alone commands utmost respect even from the Legati, who are at most seen as equals to them.

Legatus
Serving as the direct will of whoever sits upon the Gilded Throne, the Legati are the de facto military leaders of Luxfordia, under whom all other branches of the military take form. A Legatus wields martial strength and mystic magic to direct combat, serving as leaders in any offensive in place of the King or Queen. Through them, orders from the throne are delivered to the frontlines and made real. The Legati are close-knit and serve to keep each other informed and, in the unfortunate circumstance of one Legatus' invalidation, are expected to fill in their role as equals.

Imperator
If the Legati are the brains of the military frontline, the Imperators are the fists. Through orders from whatever Legatus they serve, the Imperator leads their Legion or fleet to battle.

Imperators are trained to lead a ground-based Legion, a sea-based Fleet or an air-based Fleet.

Ground-based Imperators lead the brunt of the Luxfordian army and carry with them a warhorn which is blown in different sounding patterns to signal an attack, retreat or surrender.

Sea-based Imperators are primarily dedicated to homeland defense though if the circumstances allow it, a naval fleet can also be formed for an offensive, though this is exceptionally rare in off-world offenses.

Air-based Imperators are dedicated to the transport of Luxfordian legions onto foreign worlds as well as supporting them with aerial attacks. The Imperators' Sky Fleets are manned by engineers who are not typically skilled in combat, requiring each fleet to also have defenders on board.

Centurion
In the metaphorical sense Centurions are the fingers of the fist that the Imperators represent. They are captains that answer to their Centurion and lead the heft of the army itself, being the voice that barks orders to their Vira (A Luxfordian term meaning "Squadron"). Centurions are expected to train alongside their Vira to develop a deeper understanding towards their men.

There are different types of Centurion Viras each focusing on the inclusion of a specific type of military unit -
Infantry, which consists of footmen footmen bearing sword and shield. The most common type of Vira.
Archery, which consists of backline bow- and crossbowmen to rain down projectiles on enemies.
Siege, which consists of backline siege weapons and their handlers to destroy enemy fortifications.
Magical Offense, which consists of backline mages that hurl devastating spellcraft at enemies.
Magical Defense, which consists of backline mages that support the rest of the army through healing.
Anti-Magical, which consists of frontline Spellbreakers used for countering enemy magic.
Light Cavalry, which consists of mounted backline soldiers used for support and flanking.
Heavy Cavalry, which consists of mounted frontline soldiers used for breaking enemy frontlines.
Engineering, unique to Luxfordian Sky Fleets, are dedicated to the operation and manning of Luxfordian Skyships.

Ground-based Centurions carry their own warhorns that are used to reply the Imperator's orders.

Tribune
Tribunes are specialists, the most trusted soldiers of a Centurion, and among them one carries the Vira's banner. If a Centurion falls in battle, one of their Tribunes is expected to take temporary control of the Vira, decided through a preestablished chain of command within the Vira. Unlike the rest of the Vira, which consists of one type of military unit, a Centurion's Tribunes can and are even are encouraged to possess differing fighting styles to give the Centurion more tools and knowledge to work with.
