Following the fall of Old Luxford with the fall of Vandrash Aspectum Luxford, the first King of Luxfordia, the Humans fled their ancestral homeland of Ischyros to settle in the Azura Province across the ocean, gathering in different Human tribes each vying for total control over the newfound land and their scattered people. Andrash Aspectum Luxford, Son of Vandrash and Prince of the Old Kingdom, would lead those that still called themselves Luxfordia to the mouth of the Azura Cape where he saw the settlement of New Luxford alongside those that recognized him as the true King of all Humans.
New Luxfordia would grow from a simple town to a fortress built to withstand war when Andrash was killed by the assassin Yor Qorrus, a despicable man thought to be long dead in Old Luxford as he served as an executioner for Vandrash. Now known as King Yor, Luxfordia would make ways to conquering the other Human nations. King Yor would conquer the local Keklar tribes that contested their land and use them as slaves in building Castle Aspectum and the surrounding town. Though Yor was formidable military leader, he would ultimately fall to the forces of Duke Wylliam Victoria of Ironwatch. Wylliam would conquer what Yor had previously and then some, leading a campaign to absorb each Human city-state and turn them back under one banner. Wylliam's reign was short-lived as he took the throne at an old age, leaving his wife Eliza to lead. Queen Eliza would lead the development of New Luxford into a bustling Human city that equaled in size and population to Old Luxford within a few decades, seeing to erecting great stone walls and history's first sewage system for the betterment of her people. The Keklar that were previously used as laborers to erect the great city would prove to be too troublesome to keep anymore, leading to their imprisonment within the deepest depths of the sewers beneath the city where they would develop their prison into a city called the Undersew.
Since the Victorian Monarchy, New Luxford has steadily grown as a hallmark for a capital city. The original settlement built by King Wylliam and Queen Eliza remains to this day at the heart of the city, having been preserved and be named the cultural Old Town.
Districts
Commercial: New Luxford's Market Row is one of the city's largest districts, spanning the outer wall of the city and traveling up to the gates of Old Town. The Market Row is home to many shops and businesses with many of them having set up outside stalls to sell their goods in warmer weather. The Golden Lion Inn is the city's biggest and most visited tavern and inn, the Bank of New Luxford is used across Luxfordia by its citizens to store and withdraw their Gex, and the Newcoin Auction House is famous for its nightly auctions for rare and incredible items of interest which can result in bidding wars. The Gilded Gate of the city opens to the west of the district to the world outside, a small carriage park is stationed right outside the gates for travelers arriving or departing from the city.
Many who own businesses here also live in the buildings they work at, making the district their residential home. The rooftops of the district are yellow.
Cultural: The New Luxford Old Town is a historic part of the city as it was the original settlement established by King Andrash and later developed by the Victorian Monarchs. The Old Town is functionally more of a cultural site now, with the Royal Museum, Theater of Wylliam Speart and the Colosseus Arena located here. The district has four entry-ways that lead into other districts: Market Row to the West, The Hammerworks to the East, Foreign District to the South and Magus Sanctuary to the North. The Old Town surrounds the Castle Grounds from all sides and acts as the closest unrestricted zone in the city to the royal castle.
The Old Town itself is surrounded by an old stone wall built during the Victorian Monarchy. Some of Luxfordia's wealthy live in the Old Town as well, particularly in the historical manors located throughout the district. The rooftops of the district are red.
Diplomatic: New Luxford's Foreign District is located to the south of Old Town and acts as a tourist and diplomatic destination for outside visitors. Diplomats from other kingdoms are given temporary homes in this district during their stay and it is also here that a few foreign embassies from other empires are located here. The residential Green Hill Streets are located in the east, west and south sides of the Foreign District and the Sante Solidus Square is located to the west. The rooftops of the district are green.
Governmental: At the heart of the capital are the Castle Grounds, where Castle Aspectum is located. Here the Monarch, who is currently Queen Regindra, and their family and house of servants and advisors live protected by the Royal Guard. The Castle Grounds also feature homes where each of the Luxfordian Dukes is housed during their diplomatic stay in the capital. Unauthorized entry into the Castle Grounds is strictly forbidden with the punishment of trespass being a month-long imprisonment in Van'Glaar. The Castle Grounds also serves as the training place for Luxfordia's military and it houses them there so that they can be close to the royal houses when needed.
The Castle Grounds is defended by another great stone wall and it has two gateways leading into it: To the east and to the west. Underneath Castle Aspectum lies Monarch's Rest, a massive tomb housing the bodies of all previous Luxfordian kings and queens.
Harbour: The New Royale Harbour connects the capital city to the ocean. It serves as both a transportation and trade port between New Luxford, Sante Citare and Geata Mara and houses a few unique shops as well, though the majority of the harbour is made up of the Royal Shipyard which is used to build and maintain the kingdom's naval fleet. It is not uncommon to see dozens of combat-ready vessels docked at the harbour. The Silver Hope is a lighthouse built off-shore from the Harbour and is considered a monument towards the Humans that came to Azura to rebuild the kingdom so long ago.
The Harbour is also the location for many homes for the sailors that pass through. The rooftops of the district are blue.
Industrial: New Luxford's Hammerworks is a district wholly focused on production. It connects the Old Town with the Harbour and is considered the second largest district in the city. Many workshops are found sprewn throughout the district which causes it to have a dusty and warmer environment than the rest of the city. Many bigger shops located in the Market Row have workshops in the Hammerworks to make their products for them. The Dwarven Academy and The Luxfordian School of Engineering are also located here, which were founded by the Dwarf Tidsear Dedahoine and the Fenik Sparx Quickenwit respectively following the end of the Grand War.
Some Dwarven and Fenik homes have been built in this district, though they are mainly used as temporary places of stay. The rooftops of the district are orange.
Magical: The Magus Sanctuary north of Old Town used to be a residential district of New Luxford which was turned into an industrial district by King Yvain IV prior to the Grand War to help supply his world conquering army. Following the liberation of New Luxford and the end of the war, Queen Regindra Fedelerin had the district rebuilt into a sanctuary for the often neglected magi of her kingdom, granting them a place to study and practice without needing to travel to Etherin. The Magus Sanctuary's center features the Evertome Tower, named after the current lineage of Dukes of Etherin. Here, Magi from across the kingdom and beyond often gather for united meetings and practice and the grassy grounds around the tower are often busy with meditating spellcasters or young students of the Arcane.
The district also features some homes that were left untouched by the previous Monarch and are now used for founding specialty magic shops or homes for the wizards that live here. The rooftops of the district are purple.
Recreational: Forum Luxfordia is a vast piece of the city mostly comprised of sparsely-wooded land for leisurely activities. It is tended to by the Luxfordian Green Union, a group of cultivators who have volunteered to keep the Park healthy and green following the war. It is also here that the Elven emissary is located, rather than the Foreign District, and Elves and Naga are typically found gathering here. A few shops that keep their own gardens are located here, selling flowers and herbs grown by them. The southern area of the Park where it transitions into the Market Row features an ivory building known as the Silver Dolphin, a luxurious and expensive bath house. Forum Luxfordia is located north of the Market Row and west from the Magus Sanctuary.
Religious: Sante Solidus Square is considered the holiest of places by those following the teachings of the Church of Divinity. The Sante Solidus Square is used by the pious of Luxfordia to meet and father for prayer, though everyone is welcomed so long as they do not disrupt their peace. Santemos Charisa Cathedral is located at the heart of the square, a large and monumental structure that is home to the Archbishop and his most trusted allies and a sacred place for the people of the Church. The Church is also used for weddings in Luxfordian tradition. The catacombs beneath the Cathedral house the bodies of past religious figures of renown as well as a vault which holds sacred religious artifacts within. Sante Solidus Square is located sout of the Market Row and west from the Foreign District and Green Hill Streets.
Many devoted households have moved to the Religious district over time, and with the Cathedral's grand sight the district is also frequented by tourists. Behind the Cathedral is the New Luxford Graveyard, where the dead are buried and funerals are hosted in quiet contemplating. The rooftops of the district are white.
Residential: New Luxford's residential Green Hill Streets is the main district used for housing the city's citizens, though homes can be found all throughout the city. The Green Hill Streets mainly features the homes of lower and middle income households as well as a couple conveniently placed shops. The rooftops of the district are green.
Skyport: New Luxford's Skyport is called Ivory Landing, a tall tower positioned between the Market Row and Foreign District which can hold up to eight transport Skyships at once. It has gained its name from the ivory texture of its structure. The inside of the building features both spiraling staircases as well as motorized elevators to get travelers from the ground up to their designated pier.
