"Sheened in the sorrowful tears of oppressors who's legacy has been forgotten, the gaping chasm in its heart is a symbol of its wielder's tyranny.
- Queen Regindra Fedelerin
During a time when the kingdom of Luxfordia was under constant threat of outside invaders and internal turmoil, the High King Yvain Greymoore II saw himself upon the frontlines often, brandishing his own-made sword and shield against enemies of his empire. He was a deeply religious person, but not without the faults of pride and overzealousness running rampant in his bloodline, resulting in his derogatory and violent outlook towards any who even dared to entertain the thought of using magic. In his throes to protect his kingdom, Yvain would send fifty of his chosen soldiers to the then-abandoned Etherin Academy to learn what can be learned from magic in order to have them wield anti-magic. In their journey to the libraries of this bastion of knowledge, these soldiers would find and retrieve an ancient gemstone and bring it to their king as a gift, telling him of its magic absorption. Yvain would forge a mighty steel shield to house within it that stone - the "Magebane Steelwall", a name inspired by his father's legacy.
Yvain would take his anti-magic soldiers and the Magebane Steelwall to countless battles against the Asvarian Binders who rebelled against his kingdom to protest the anti-magic laws present in it, defeating them and crushing their resistance. By 2533 Yvain and his brother Edward would turn on one another as Edward saw Yvain a detriment of the kingdom he sought to lead and challenged him to a duel on the Cliffs of Qorrus. Their fierce battle would awaken a great Garmhound Zannera which attacked the King and his brother. Yvain would die by a bite to the stomach and Edward would drive Zannera away by jabbing it into the skull with the sharp end of a broken Magebane Steelwall.
After his brother's death, Edward would become High King and he would keep the shattered shield as his own. He would get Antimagus Evitare to bless its shards with a greater resilience to magic and Thane Arnfast Stalserkagg to reforge it. What would come out this endeavour is a new Magebane Steelwall with three times the potency and toughness - "Magibane".
Beginning with Edward, Magibane would become a family crest for the Greymoore house. Next to the crown, Magibane became the second most important and recognised symbol of royalty in the kingdom as each ruler had it passed onto them from their predecessor. Under the tyranny of the Palefaced Ruler Davadion Greymoore, Magibane would undergo another transformation as its wielder underwent one as well - cursed by the Phantom King, Magibane's steel absorbed the souls of Davadion's tormented bodyguards. Driven apathetic of the fate of the living, Davadion and Cursed Magibane sat upon the high throne with disinterest, causing the kingdom to enter a brief period of dormancy and degradation. Only when Yvain Greymoore III, the great grandchild of Magibane's original creator, would reveal himself would the shield be liberated from evil clutches and cleansed of the brand of Ischyros and instead be blessed by the spirit of Yvain II, who's tranquil soul would inhabit the shield and give it a new life.
From Yvain III to his son Valon Greymoore II and then to Yvain Greymoore IV, this mystical shield would reach the end of its chapters when it was taken to war by its wielder, helping shed the blood of countless innocent lives in the wake of Yvain's rampage. Yvain's shield would react negatively to this conflict and ultimately be his downfall when he needed it most - on the shores on Gwynbrenon Leronas Moonfire's scythe would puncture the heart of the shield and wound Yvain in his stomach, opening him to a decapitating blow from Zurshak.
The pierced Magibane would be discarded by the leaders of the Liberation Front to rust in the Gwynbrenon wilderness, its legacy forgotten much like the Greymoore bloodline. Only recently has it been sighted again and given a new symbolic name - Fallen Kingdom. Though it is broken, it is said to still possess the powers of its former self as Yvain II lives on in its metal.
Appearance and Powers
Fallen Kingdom, former known as Magibane or Magebane Steelwall, is a tall tower shield with a wider top and a pointed bottom. At its bottom is a red gemstone that enchants it with anti-magic and at the top is the symbol of the golden crown of Luxfordia as well as three golden studs. Prior to the Grand War, this shield also featured an Angel hand-painted in red on its front but years of neglect has paused the paint to wither away.
A gaping hole is found at is centre, left behind by Leronas' scythe, and cracks have formed across the shield's surface as a result.
