Davion is the Exarchos of the Draken and Lord-Archon of Dragonhearth, serving as his race's primary leader-figure and their most devoted protector.

Background

"Born with the tenacity of the Dragonlords; the wisdom of the Elders; and the devotion of the Dragonqueen herself - Davion, to whom we call the title Exarchos."

Davion came to be much like any other Draken in his time, with a single purpose in mind - born for duty and to die for duty. He is said to have been a prideful one even as a whelpling, seeing the glory in the actions of his fellow kind in service of the Dragons. His blind zealotry toward Dragonkind led him to train both his mind and body restlessly for the single purpose of duty and prove himself in his first Rite of Ascension at the ripe age of 14, flying through the trials with guile, martial prowess and masterful use of his comrades. Davion is the first Draken in recent history to undergo and succeed in a second Rite of Ascension three years after his first.

To the shock and awe to many Highborn on-lookers, Davion succeeded in this endeavour, though he was pushed to his limit. He became the youngest Devoted in the millennia at the age of 17. Following his ascension, Davion would pursue his duties with dignity and utmost reverence for the cause, becoming an perfect specimen that the young of Lower Dragonhearth idolise to this day. Through years of further service, he would move up the pecking order of his Lord-Archon, Periboea, even at some point becoming her most trusted friend.

It would be Davion's charge that led to Dragonhearth's first major expansion since its inception - At the behest of the Elder Defender, Kraz-Dominus, he and his Spartotes led an expedition into the underground caverns of Winterfury, to a place known as the Ungol Skullands, in order to secure an ancient Shargazi temple. As it was Kraz-Dominus herself that granted this task to him, Davion made it a priority to fulfil. He took his three hundred Spartotes and led them to the deepest darks of the Skullands below, fighting through an onslaught of savage monsters and creatures of shadows, believing themselves indestructible with the light of the Elders paving their way forward.

They were wrong. The Skullands are dangerous, solely in-due to the nigh-infinite hordes of elementally-charged creatures present there, many matching the strength and size of the Dragons themselves. Davion's Spartotes would learn humility when the first of their numbers would fall in battle yet when the danger of the mission was put into question, Davion would speak against retreat.

"It is the will of the Elders that we stand here today. The strategic wisdom of Khaz-Dominus has foreseen that we succeed in this. For the glory of Dragonkind!"

Davion's leadership pushed his men to go past the point of no return, diving deeper into the depths through a neverending counterforce that continued to cost them their lives, trickling down their numbers bit by bit. Even as he witnessed his fellow aspirants being torn to shreds, crushed underfoot or disintegrated by primal energies, Davion remained stalwart in his decisions, his faith shaken but ongoing.

By the time they would reach their objective, only fifty Spartotes would be left standing. They entered an ancient vault beneath the temple in search of an artifact believed stolen from the Dragons. There, Davion's army encountered a massive eight-legged creature the size of the chamber it inhabited, its carapace enchanted by pure shadow - an Arachun, though many would simply call it a giant spider that takes the likeness of a Demon. The creature would be the end of Davion's forces, wiping out every last one of them in an unexpected show of merciless killer instincts, leaving Davion mortally wounded and at the mercy of the Arachun.

Yet in a flash of light did Davion's blade burn with the souls of his fellow men, their spirits coming together in one last act of service. When it burned its brightest, Davion would drive it through the skull of the Arachun as it came down for a killing blow, penetrating her unbreakable carapace and slaying the beast while an inch away from his own death.

When he stood up in the stilled chamber where his men all laid lifeless, his grimace was sombre but resolute. He thanked his soldiers as the light of their spirits vanished from his blade, leaving him alone in the darkness to seek our their objective, which he'd find in a nest of Arachun eggs. The relic glowed with a dim light, ancient machinery churning out a power unfamiliar to him. As he held the relic in his hands now, he took one more look at his fallen comrades before reaching into his pocket to pull out an Arcatech Beacon, a device that would allow him to send for a one-way teleportation back to Dragonhearth, meant only to be used when the mission was complete. As he hesitated to press the button, he pondered on the meaning of their duty and what it truly meant for Dragonkind.

When Davion returned to Dragonhearth to bring the relic to Kraz-Dominus, he was met with a cold realisation - the relic was destroyed by the claw of his Elder, broken into dust that disintegrated to the winds. A shameful creation of a past the Dragons wished to erase, nothing more. When Davion's spirit broke apart, he expressed the weight of his comrades' deaths that were on his shoulders now. He was met with silence, the Elder leaving him to his own machinations, expected to return back to his superior for further duty. Instead, Davion drew his blade, the sound of the draconium sheath being removed alerting Khaz-Dominus and bringing her attention back at him.

Without saying a word, yet letting out a furious roar of oppression, Davion would charge at the Elder and attempt to strike her with an emotionally-fuelled blow. Yet she would stop him dead in his tracks, slamming him under her foot, shattering his soulbound sword.

"Davion, you disappoint me... and you have done so well following the orders of your superiors."

For his actions, Davion would be stripped of his rank and cast out of Dragonhearth, thrown from the ledge of the city back down to the Skullands below, his exile a show to all Draken present to remind them of their place. It became clear that day that the people of lower Dragonhearth lived under a tyranny. In the wake of Davion's fall, the Empire saw chaos breed in its streets, a tear between highborn and lowborn forming that led to riots upon the Arcatech streets. Though the Highborn worked to silence their voices, it did not stop an opposition faction from forming - the Zealous Verdict, and at their head Davion, still alive and ready to fight till the end to give equality to his people.

A two year civil battle would take between the lower city and the upper, resulting in a stalemate that benefitted none. The Ring of Elders would eventually be forced to concede their position and give in to the Zealous' demands, granting Davion back his rank and reforming the system of the lowborn folk. He would become Exarchos, a new title that he would be the first to wear, a title of leadership in the Empire that granted him the authority to speak for his people.

In the wake of this revolution, order was once more established in the great city. Exarchos Davion would be quick to establish his authority in the lower city, allowing for more liberty for those that lived there. Still, the social class system remained and those that were lowborn would continue to remain as that. Not long after, the Zealous Verdict, thought to be disbanded with Davion's ascension, would begin to make their return. Though they were no longer under the same leadership, the Zealous would recruit lowborn into their ranks with the promise of finishing what Davion had started, even if he no longer aligned with them.
