"A brilliant scientist in the service of a military power, he dedicates his mind to the crafting of deadly compounds, forging them into instruments of war. Despite his frail appearance and slight frame, he has undergone basic military training and is capable of self-defence. He finds greater satisfaction in the realm of intellect than in physical endeavour. His work is not merely a profession, but a lifeblood - science is his sole purpose, his burning desire to understand all." - Roman P. Cyber, in his report on "The Poisonous Ash"

Background

Trux Envisage
The year 2988 is remembered for one crucial event - the death of High King Valon Greymoore II, a man who stood against the tide of sin and sought to repent his kingdom in the eyes of the larger world. He had been found dead with his personal guard in the forests of Gwynbrenon, his murderers unknown even to this day. Much would change that year, as his young son Yvain took to the throne and sought justice not through negotiation but through action. Luxfordia entered a total shutdown following his ascent to the throne, as borders were closed up and civilians made to work in a reformed industry in preparation for a great war.

No estate suffered more greatly during this period than the house of Ironwatch. Zealous loyalists to the throne through thick and thin, they would turn their settlements into iron prisons for their citizens if it meant the young king got his desired military strength. Duke Aerthur Justigarde II of Ironwatch was responsible for amassing the armies and as part of his ploy to do so, he set forth a project that haunts some to this day - "Trux Envisage".

"By the royal decree of High King Yvain Greymoore IV and the law of the Iron Duke, all non-essential Wolfen citizens of the Ironwatch estate are to become servicemen in Trux Envisage. Compliance is mandatory."

Overnight, the streets were beating with the sound of footmen rallying Wolfen from the slums, taking them in iron cuffs and muzzles to the Halls of Judgement, a place in the Royal Armeria that would previously serve to imprison criminals now a place to house Aerthur's darkest secrets. Inspired by a report of a Wolfen soldier losing themselves to bloodlust during the War of Sands, Aerthur aspired to create an entire contingent of feral Wolfen to unleash upon the enemies of the crown. Using brutal methods that ranged from starvation to torture, he would have his associates break down the noble men and women of his estate into beasts reduced to savage instincts.

The story of Damianos Mane begins during Trux Envisage. He was born into the Halls of Judgement, his mother having been pregnant when she was taken off the streets. Like with many births in this condition, she would not survive it. He was born sickly which made him a candidate for the fleshheaps, but he would be spared when Legatus Ivan Northfury visited the compound in person and saw the frail pup with his own eyes. Familiar to the events that sparked Trux Envisage, Ivan took the newborn Wolfen in as one of his own, bestowing upon him the name Damien.

Damien of Northfury
Damien would be freed from the Halls of Judgement and be taken to Ivan's household in Nordstrom, where he'd enjoy a decent upbringing compared to the slums of Ironwatch. Food, shelter and opportunities were all a guarantee for him and all he had to do was obey the word of his new master. The boy would come to be known as the quiet sort, never speaking beyond hushed words and obeying intently to every order given, whether it be by the Legatus or other figures of authority. Despite his less-than-average Wolfen physique, Damien would be considered healthy by all accounts and Ivan took it upon himself to push the boy to new extremes, desiring from him a warrior. He was enlisted into private military training at the age of 7 but would show little passion or desire for it, for his true love hid itself in books. During moments of reprieve, the lanky Wolfen could spend hours with his snout in records of education, particularly medicine and mortal anatomy.

During the long years leading up to the war, Damien would accompany Ivan on his travels throughout Luxfordia, becoming a somewhat popular figurehead for the Legatus' image. He'd later even adopt the form of the tall, slender Wolfen as a design for his contingent. While he was always expected to stay within arms length to his master, it wasn't always a possibility when Ivan had to go to secretive meetings with other Legati. Still, a level of trust had built between them and while Damien was reluctant on breaking it, his itch for answers led him to explore places he previously couldn't. Nowhere would be more influential for the Wolfen than the very halls that gave him life. He saw in them the horrors his kind were facing, the brutalisation of the last remaining sane ones still locked away in iron cells and the resulting savagery that incurred in those that broke. When others would feel horror, Damien felt enlightenment.

Ivan would discover his pet gazing longingly down at those that tormented his own kin, watching with sick curiousity the methods of torture and experimentation that were conducted there. In Ivan, anger boiled as his trusted pet had abandoned his post to wander off, but it quelled when he saw the true nature in Damien's eyes. He would decide that day to let it pass, and merely told Damien to return to his side as they had to leave.

As years passed and the imminent war on the world was coming, an Asvarian separatist movement within the kingdom would make an attempt to put a stop to it. An assassination attempt was made on the heads of the military hierarchy, the Legati, and in the case of Ivan it almost succeeded. He was ambushed during a walk in the garden with Damien by a manservant wielding a poisoned dagger and though they were able to dispatch his assailant, Ivan would quickly crumble under the weight of his own body and be placed at the mercy of his Wolfen pet. It would be here, in this moment in time, that Damien saw an opportunity to show his true talents by mixing the very herbs growing in Ivan's garden into a fast-acting antidote.

Damien's healing spared Ivan from death and more-so foiled the other assassination attempts. For his duties, Ivan rewarded Damien with respect. No longer a mere pet in his eyes, Damien was freed from his collar and was now a respected member of his household.

The Grand War
The year 3000 knew the start of the Grand War, a great galaxy-wide conflict that was meant to end all wars by uniting all under the banner of Luxfordia. As the war was declared, Ivan had to leave his home behind to fulfil his role in conquering Wyrmeron with his Frozen Front Contingent. Damien, having become his right-hand by that time, was left behind to watch over his household in his absence. Damien took this as an opportunity to bolster his own intelligence, ordering a new library to be built within a vacant hall in the manor and fill it with books from various other places of knowledge starting with Etherin Academy, which was shut-down a decade prior. He cared not for books about magic, even despised and burnt them, but he found new cornerstones of knowledge through certain writings in medicine.

Because of the war in distant shores, Luxfordia itself was left relatively defenceless during this time. Damien witnessed many civil attacks happening in Nordstrom, on the very manor he inhabited, but his personal guard allowed him safety during these tumultuous times. Rumours circulate that he even ordered the retrieval of the bodies of those that fought in rebellion against the royals so that he may study them in great, gorey detail, a sick theory that is burdened by truth.

The war would end up lasting three years, during which Ivan would make no contact back home. It was suspected that he died in the line of duty when the United Tribes and Bjorn reclaimed Whitewind Rise from his forces. Luxfordia itself suffered a great loss with the death of the High King and the total dismantling of the kingdom. An Asvar named Regindra would climb to the throne and become Queen, causing the previously Human-dominated nation to be reformed into something better. In her efforts of reform, Regindra seized the homes of previous royalists including Ivan's, but by that time Damien would be gone, his effects only felt in the gruesome sight of his laboratory beneath the manor.

Poisonous Ash
Damien would flee Luxfordia in the aftermath of its reform, taking on a guise and abandoning his name. He'd turn to mercenary work in the tropics of Saberos, where he'd continue his studies briefly in the pirate city of Portegral. He'd make great strides when he discovered a compound named "Poisonous Ash", a deadly powder that can kill even in small dosages by breathing it in. He'd take on the name "Poisonous Ash" not only as a result of his discovery, but also as respect for his new favourite type of weapon. During this time he'd earn a profit in taking on kill quests as well as aiding the sick through his medicinal skills, becoming known as an angel of death in some circles in Portegral.

At some point he'd return to using his original name, though twisting it with draconic influence and granting himself a surname - Damianos Mane. No reason is yet known for this decision, but Damianos continues his work as a mercenary and as a doctor, using his funds to finance his continued education.
